Changing the way we talk about aging and older people.

It's time to reframe aging.

Everyday phrases and assumptions activate ageist stereotypes.

Reframing aging changes attitudes and reduces ageism.

Reframing Aging is a national movement to dispel the dominate narratives about older people, recast harmful ideas about aging, and tell a more accurate and complete story.

Reframing is about choices. About how we activate productive thinking and avoid the traps that cue negative mindsets and stereotypes.

Reframing Aging trainings are grounded in research and recommendations from FrameWorks Institute.

By reframing the way we talk about aging, we can shift public perceptions, change attitudes, reduce age bias, and increase support for policy changes.

Ageism hurts our health, well-being and financial security.

Ageism contributes to social isolation, workforce discrimination, and can reduce life expectancy. It hurts our health, our well-being, our financial security, and the economy.

A 2020 AARP report estimated that illegal age discrimination in the workplace cost the United States economy $850 billion per year.

Becca Levy, PhD, a professor of social and behavioral sciences at Yale School of Public Health, found ageism harms the health of older people in 45 countries and that ageism in health care cost $63 billion in one year in the United States alone.

Aging services professionals, community leaders, and those marketing to older people have a unique opportunity to reframe the conversation about aging to ensure we all have access to essential resources and supports in our communities of choice.
